2001년 현대음악 앙상블 ‘소리’에 의해 초연된 곡을 소프라노와 오케스트라를 위하여 재구성하였다. 오케스트라 버전은 2010 도쿄에서 초연되었으며 대구현대음악제 김천시립오케스트라를 위하여 다시 편곡되었다. 재미 의사이자 시인, 마종기선생님의 시 ‘다리 위의 풍경’을 가사로 모두 네 부분으로 작곡하였다. 인간 내면의 슬픔, 공포, 외로움, 위로 등을 표현하고자 하였다. 시의 내용을 때로는 극적으로, 때로는 서정적으로 노래하는 소프라노를 오케스트라가 지속적으로 변화하며 다양한 색을 입힌다. 무조와 조성을 자유롭게 넘나들며 시에 나타난 타인과의 갈등, 소통의 부재, 배려를 소리로 상상해보았다.
작품해설(영문)
This piece was originally written for soprano and chamber ensemble, in 2002. The piece was rearranged for soprano and orchestra for the Asian Music Festival 2010 in Tokyo. The poem is by MAH Chonggi, a Korean medical doctor and poet living in America. The whole piece consists of four sections which portraits the inner side of people: solitary play, anxiety, sadness and mortal fear, a hearty consolation.
The orchestra supports the text with the continuously changing tone color while the soprano delivers the poem in the dramatic or lyrical ways. The musical language flows freely from atolality to tonality. The last section which is basically tonal with mild dissonances portrays the sympathy of each person for the other and the ultimate comfort in religion.
