작곡가 박범훈은 예술가, 교육자 및 교육 행정가로서 활동하고 있다. 지휘자·작곡가로서의 활동은 86아시안게임 개막식 작곡 및 지휘를 시작으로 88서울올림픽, 2002한·일 월드컵, 대구유니버사이드 개막식 음악 등에 참여했다. 또한 국립국악관현악단, 중앙국악관현악단, 오케스트라 아시아 등을 창단해서 우리음악의 대중화에 힘을 쏟았다.
대한민국 국민훈장 석류장(No. 602호), 한국무용음악 작곡상, KBS 국악대상 작곡상, 대한민국 작곡대상, 대한민국 예술인상(대통령상), 서울특별시 문화상(국악 부문)을 수상하였다. 저서로는 「피리 산조 연구」, 「작편곡을 위한 국악기 연구」, 「한국 불교음악사 연구」, 「박범훈의 예술세계」, 「소리연」, 「추임새」등이 있으며, <전통음악으로 본 한국인의 멋>, <경기음악의 보존과 전승발전에 관한 연구>, <문화산업시대의 국악의 역할>, <산조의 역사전 의의와 중요성> 등의 연구 논문이 있다. 음반으로는 현재까지 발매되었거나 미발매된 음원을 총정리, <박범훈의 음악세계>라는 타이틀로 2004년 30여장의 음반으로 출시되었다. 중앙대학교 부총장, 총장, 대통령 취임준비위원장, 대통령실 교육문화 수석을 역임하였으며, 현재 중앙대학교 예술대학 명예 교수, 재단법인 뭇소리 중아예술원 이사장, 중국 중앙음악학원 객좌교수이다.
Park Bum-Hun is composer, educator, and education administrator. He has been involved with the opening ceremony music of the 1986 Asian Games, the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the 2002 World Cup, and DaeGu Universiade as conductor and composer. He has founded the National Orchestra of Korean Traditional Music, the Central Orchestra of Korean Traditional Music, and Orchestra Asia and devoted to popularizing of Korean National Music. He won a National medal Seokryujang (No. 602), Korea Dance Music Composition Award, KBS Korea Traditional Music Composition Award, Korea President Award, Culture Award of Seoul. The composers Park Bum-Hum wrote books: "Flute Sanjo Research", "Study of Korean Traditional Musical Instrument for Composition and Arrangement", "Studies of Korea's Buddhist Music History", "Park Bum-Hun's Art World", "Soriyeon", "Chuimsae", and so on. As well as writing many books, Mr. Park has presented many studies: "Korea Sapidity by Korean Traditional Music", "Studies of the Conservation and Development for GyungGi Music". "The role of Korean Traditional Music in Cultural Industry Era", "Historical Significance and Importance of Sanjo", and so forth.
He gathered all released and unreleased recordings and made an album titled "Park Bum-Hun's Music World". The album contains 30 chapters and was introduced in 2004. He served as vice-president and president of JungAng University, chairman of the preparatory committee for the presidential inauguration, senior presidential office of Education and Culture. Today, he is emeritus professor at JungAng university, Chair of MotSoRi Foundation, and visiting professor at the China Central Conservatory of Music.
