이 곡은 죽음을 앞둔 한 사람의 생애와 그의 마지막 60여일에 관한 기억을 바탕으로 작곡된 바이올린 협주곡이다. 그 사람에 대한 사건이나 기억을 음악적으로 묘사하기보다는 특정 이미지나 심리상태를 주관적 관점에서 해석하여 각 악장 별로 음악화 하였다. 매우 단순한 화음과 스케일의 연속으로 구성된 2악장은 이 곡의 중요한 중심축이다. 싸늘했지만 밝고 따뜻했던 어느 해 눈 내린 겨울의 주일아침을 다룬 2악장에서, 나는 특별히 평생을 부인했었던 그리스도께 대한 한 사람의 아름답고 빛났던 회심의 순간을 표현하고 싶었다. 1악장에서는 고단했던 삶 속의 상처 입은 내면을, 3악장은 죽음을 앞둔 순간을 다루었으며 양식적으로는 단순한 화음과 조성으로부터 복조, 복화음에 이르기까지 화음과 조성의 긴장도 조절을 통해 이러한 주제를 표현하고자 하였다.
'Invisible Hands' is a violin concerto which is composed of three contrasting movements, and it was inspired by memories of my father, who died by cancer in 2000. In the second movement, I tried to vividly express a beautiful and shining moment of my father's conversion to Christianity into the music, that he denied the existence of God throughout his whole life. The first movement focused on his mental agony and hurt, and the third movement dealt with the moment of his death. I have attempted to convey these spiritual themes modulating harmonic tension from simple consonant to poly-chordal dissonant.
