국악관현악을 위한 은 서양의 구조주의 작곡법을 국악관현악에 맞게 적용하려고 한 작품이며, 오케스트라 음악의 정점에 있는 Symphony를 국악관현악으로 구현하는 길을 찾아가기 위한 첫 걸음으로 작곡되었다.
이 곡은 Symphony의 형식을 그대로 빌려온 것이 아니라, 음과 음의 관계, 악구와 악구 사이의 관계, 부분과 부분 사이의 관계 등 작품 안에서 일어나는 여러 가지 음악적 요소들을 논리적으로 설명할 수 있도록 설계하였고, 국악관현악의 성격에 적절한 구성 방법을 만들어 보았다.
Sinfonietta No. 1 for Korean Traditional Orchestra is an application of Western structuralism and the first attempt to adapt the form of symphony, which is the highest development of Western orchestral music, for traditional Korean orchestra. However, it is not a direct adaptation of the symphonic form, but I have endeavored to offer logical explanations for different musical elements within the work, such as the relationship between individual tones, phrases, and fragments, while also making up a structure appropriate for Korean orchestra.
