가득 찰 만(滿) 자와 빌 공(空) 자가 합쳐진 제목이다. ‘비어 있는 것으로 가득 차다’ 라는 의미로 촛불 하나가 방을 메우는 것과 비슷한 맥락을 가진다. 소리는 공간을 채우고 다시 곧 사라진다. 그러나 소리의 잔향은 음이 사라진 후에도 남고, 경험은 평생 기억 속에 남게 된다. 빛으로 빈 공간을 가득 채우는 듯한 이미지로 소리의 울림이 점차 두터워진다.
작품해설(영문)
"Man" is a Chinese character meaning "full" and "gong" means "empty". "Mangong" means "to be full of void". Just as a candle fills a room with light, sounds fill space and then disappear instantly. However, their reverberations linger on and the experiences attained are imprinted on our memories for a lifetime. The reverberations of the sounds, portraying the image of light filling space, become thicker and deeper as this piece progresses.
