Bedtime Story는 아이들에게 잠자리에서 읽어주는 동화를 말한다. 이런 동화의 주요 소재는 모험이다. 용감한 사람, 소심한 사람, 꾀가 많은 사람, 게으른 사람, 우둔한 사람, 신체적 약점을 가진 사람 모두가 저마다의 모험을 떠나 신비한 체험을 하고, 역경을 이겨내고 상을 받는다. 이 곡에서는 이런 모험 이야기에 연관되어 연상되는 표제어 4개를 (Ⅰ. 옛날옛날에, Ⅱ. 모험의 시작, Ⅲ. 동굴속으로, Ⅳ. 환영의 축제) 정하고 각 표제어에 알맞을만한 음색을 찾아 곡으로 써보았다. 주제가 동화에 관련된 만큼 따듯하고 밝은 소리를 주로 사용하였으며, 여러 재질의 악기로 구성된 타악기 앙상블의 특성을 살리기 위해 미묘한 음색 변화나 음향적 효과를 사용하였다.

Most bedtime stories are themed around adventures. Whether the protagonist is brave or timid, clever or dim-witted, diligent or lazy, physically strong or challenged, he/she embarks on a journey, undergoes various experiences, overcomes predicaments, and receives a reward at the end. This piece consists of four sections, each entitled in a manner that is reminiscent of such adventure stories (I. A Long Long Time Ago, II. The Beginning, III. Into the Cave, and IV. Welcoming Festivity). As it is themed around an adventure found in a children's story, it employs warm, bright sounds and focuses on highlighting the ensemble of various percussion instruments that create subtly different tones and effects.
