피아노 독주를 위한 “영감”

작품해설(영문)

　As the title signifies, the composition was created by six musical thoughts that struck me at the moment when I saw a piano. I would like to portray these thoughts in this composition, presenting them in the form of a suite containing six independent pieces. A note written at the initial stage of the compositional process includes the following:

Slowly, but strongly, I am drawn into a grand piano whose presence on the quiet, empty stage, ironically, is further highlighted by a spotlight. Without realizing, time, accompanied by the absolute silence, passes by. It, then, occurs to me that the very beginning of my compositional process coincides with the very moment that this silence begins to fall apart.

　The moment that the silence begins to break down is the moment when the silence begins to be disturbed. This is the notion that I have developed over course of time, the notion that describes my compositional procedure. Similarly, the same notion is applied to this particular composition.

　This suite consists of six musical pieces, including Prologue, Flight, Meditation, Phantom, Emanation and Epilogue. The performance of the complete suite requires twelve minutes and thirty seconds.
