우리는 어디서 와서 어디로 가는 것일까? 우리의 삶은 채워 나가는 것이라고 혹자는 말한다. 작곡가는 이에 대한 목적어인 ‘아름다움’을 자연에서 가져와 나름의 음악적 방식으로 형상화하였다. 세월이라는 기차의 시간성은 사계절에 비유되었고, '네 번째 봄', '소낙비‘, '억새풀 피는 가을', '질화로' 라는 4개의 주제로 나뉘어 있다.
첫 악장은 천안함 폭침 후 네 번째 해의 봄에 세월호 참사로 우리 가슴을 더욱 짓누르던 '가슴 속 진한 아픈 마음의 노래'가 담겨있다. ‘소낙비’에는 삶의 굴곡이 여름철 천둥 번개를 동반한 소낙비 소리로 묘사되었다. 또한 우리가 좇는 환상과도 같은 이상은 아름다운 무지개의 모습에 비유되어 대금 독주와 함께 아련하고 지속적인 화음으로 등장한다. 가을바람에 넘실거리는 은빛 찬란한 억새풀은 '무리지음의 아름다움'으로 표현되었고, 겨울을 암시하는 ‘질화로’는 그 속에서 활활 타오르는 숯불이 내뿜는 새파란 불꽃을 통해 우리 삶이 추구하는 '사랑을 향한 끝없는 열정'을 묘사하고 있다. 우리는 어디서 와서 어디로 가는 것일까?
From where do we come and where are we going? Some say that our life is something for us to fill. The composer takes ‘beauty,’ the object of the word 'fill,' from nature and has embodied beauty in her own way through her music. The temporality (zeitlichkeit) of the train called 'time' is compared to the four seasons.
This piece has four sections: The 'Fourth Spring,' 'Shower,' 'Silver Grass Pool in Autumn,' and 'Pottery Brazier.' The first movement is filled with ‘heartbreaking song deep in our hearts,’ since we were shocked by the Sewol Ferry disaster, especially because it occurred in spring almost exactly four years after the sinking of the Cheonan, a navy corvette, in 2010. The second movement, ‘Shower,’ depicts the ups and downs of life as the sound of a shower accompanied by thunder and lightning in summer. Also, the ideal we are pursuing which seems to be a fantasy or dream is compared to a beautiful rainbow and appears in dimming and continuous chords together with a solo performance of deageum(large traditional Korean transverse bamboo flute). A glittering silver grass pool swaying in the autumn wind is expressed as ‘beauty of grouping.’ ‘Pottery Brazier,’ which is a metaphor for winter, describes the ‘endless passion towards love’ which we pursue in our life through blue fire that flares up from charcoal inside.
