나비효과는 하찮은 사건이 나중에 큰 사건을 초래할 수 있다는 일반적인 의미로 사용된다.
같은 제목의 나의 음악에서는 작은 소리로부터 시작되는 음향이 변조되는 과정을 거쳐 새로운 공간 음향을 형성하는 과정을 보여준다. 다시 말하면, 현재 연주되는 모든 소리는 피드백 딜레이 회로에 저장되어 과거의 소리로서 계속 재생되며 이어져 연주되는 현재의 소리에 의해 변조되어 현재의 소리들과 함께 들려진다. 물론 이어져 연주되는 소리들도 같은 과정을 거치게 되어 과거와 현재의 소리가 믹스되어 미래의 소리로 발전된다.
이 ‘나비효과’는 스네어 드럼과 베이스 드럼을 긁는 작은 소리로 시작되며 이어지는 이 악기들의 다른 주법과 마림바가 연주되는 소리에 의해 변조되고, 이들 소리 또한 새로운 소리에 의해 변조되는 재귀형식을 지니고 있다. 완전 라이브로 연주되는 이 음악은 타악기 주자의 연주되는 소리와 전자음악 컨트롤 방법에 의해 영향을 받기 때문에 연주 때마다 전혀 다른 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 따라서 작은 음향이 매우 큰 공간음향으로 발전될 수도 있고 카페 음악풍의 음악으로 발전될 수도 있다.

Butterfly effect is used in a general sense that a small change in one state can result in large differences in a later state. In the same context, this work shows modulating process which causes new spatial sound. In other words, all sound currently being played is stored in the delay system, so it is continuously replayed and simultaneously modulated by new current sound. The following sounds go through the same process, therefore, a mix of past and new sounds develops into future sound.
In this work, Butterfly Effect begins from small scratch sounds of snare drum and bass drum. This sound is modulated by other sonic gestures and marimba sound, also these modulated sounds are modulated by newer sound. Since this work utilizes complete real-time live processing, the performance can lead to totally different results by conditions of percussion player and its controlling methods. Consequently, a small change can result experimental spatial sound or cafe-style music.
