이 곡은 1985년 대한민국음악제의 위촉으로 작곡되어 KBS교향악단(지휘 홍연택)과 양승희(가야금)에 의해 세종문화회관 대극장에서 초연되었다. 가야금은 황병기 교수의 제자 양승희(1~2회)와 지애리)3~8회)에 의해서 지금까지 연주되었다.
곡의 내용은 H.Bergen의 생의 철학에 나오는 창조적 진화 중 생명의 도약으로부터 아이디어를 얻은 것이다. 작곡자는 이 곡에서 우리의 생명과 혼(魂) 그리고 기(氣)가 때로는 역동적으로 때로는 정(靜)적으로 움직이고 있음을 가야금과 관현악으로 표현하였다. 1·3악장은 역동적이고 2악장은 정적이며 전곡은 협주곡 형식으로 구성되었다.
작품해설(영문)
The Korean Music Festival commisioned the piece and was premiered by KBS Symphony Orchestra with Ms.Seung-hee Yang as a kayakeum solist. And later in 1992, Ms.Seung-hee Yang was invited to the Asian Music Festival in Hiroshima. Japan and performed the piece with Hiroshima Philharmonic Orchestra. The Performance received warm applaud from audience as well as from critics. The piece was inspired by the "Elan vital" of creative evolution in Philosophy of vitality, by H.Bergson.
The composer tired to symbolize our lives, soul, and energy, which are full of animation, and expose the fact that very take part in creating some sort of energetic movements regardless of states. The work is written in a style of concerto and characteristically, both the first and third movements are lively and energetic, while the second movement is silent and calm.
